How to Decorate Your Bathroom with Plants
Many people who live in apartments or condominiums do not have access to outdoor space. It can be difficult to find a way to incorporate plants into the decor of these spaces, but there are plenty of creative ways that you can use plants in your bathroom! Here are some ideas.
Pick plants that love humidity
Some plants like any conditions, others are more specific and have particular requirements. When choosing plants for the bathroom, it is a good idea to look for tropical plants that love humidity because bathrooms are warm and wet. Or to look at air plants that don’t need deep root systems.
A few examples of this kind of plant include:
- Peace lilies
- Philodendrons
- English ivy
- Anthuriums
Keep plants in clear containers with drainage holes and add a layer of rocks or pebbles to the bottom. You can also include charcoal pieces which will help filter out any toxins that might be in the water, such as chlorine from tap water. This will also keep the roots of your plant from sitting in water.
Put plants on a tray that can be filled with pebbles and water once or twice a week to mimic how they would get watered outside. This method is great for low-maintenance plants, but you should check often to make sure there is always some water at the bottom of the tray. This method is especially good for plants that like it moist but not wet, such as African violets or succulents.

Plant vines along the walls of your bathroom. Some plants that do well in moist conditions are ivy, pothos, and philodendrons.
Turn over pots upside down on top of the toilet tank or inside it for a beautiful look with minimal up-keep!
Add plants to a toothbrush holder
Replace the plastic plants in fake flower arrangements with real ones. Keep them fresh by misting or submerging their roots once a week. You can also put decorative shells, stones, or pieces of driftwood inside the vase instead!
